Prediction table

Odds correct at time of writing, 19 October 2026.

Team news and form

San Francisco comes into this contest bouncing back into peak offensive form, driven by elite performance in red-zone efficiency and a top-tier rushing attack. The 49ers have maintained strong form at Levi’s Stadium, winning four of their last five home games while averaging over 28 points per game. Brock Purdy leads an efficient passing attack alongside Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle, both of whom have been primary focal points in the red zone. On defense, the 49ers continue to shut down opponent run schemes, ranking among the top units in EPA allowed per rush.

The Washington Commanders travel west looking to snap a tough stretch away from home. While Jayden Daniels has energized the Washington offense with explosive passing and dynamic mobility, the Commanders’ defense has struggled significantly against high-powered offenses. Washington currently ranks 30th in scoring defense and dead last in red-zone touchdown percentage allowed. Defense remains their primary liability on the road, where they have conceded 27 or more points in four of their last five games.

Head-to-head – Last 5 meetings

San Francisco 49ers 27-10 Washington Commanders (31 December 2023, NFL) Washington Commanders 20-37 San Francisco 49ers (24 December 2022, NFL)

San Francisco 49ers 9-0 Washington Commanders (20 October 2019, NFL)

San Francisco has won three of the last four meetings against Washington, averaging over 26 points per game in those victories.

Why we’re backing it

The match-up advantage in the red zone is the single biggest deciding factor. The 49ers possess one of the most efficient goal-line schemes in the league, while Washington ranks last in stopping red-zone touchdowns. San Francisco’s ability to run the ball effectively and control the tempo should keep Washington’s defense on the field for long stretches. Furthermore, Washington’s road defensive statistics suggest they will struggle to stop San Francisco’s multi-dimensional playmakers.

The main risk to the spread is Jayden Daniels’ big-play scrambling ability, which can keep Washington within reach late in games. However, San Francisco’s disciplined pass rush and sustained offensive drives provide a strong cushion to cover the 7.5-point line.
